There has never been a better time to be involved with ICUsteps. At this key moment in the evolution of our charity we’re looking to expand our work to a broader range of volunteers beyond those who are Trustees.
You may be asked to work on a particular project, attend a regularly scheduled meeting on our behalf, or take on a variety of different activities. Our work is varied; however, you will be kept fully informed by a member of the ICUsteps trustee group, who will support you, discuss your work or help with any issues.
We ask all our volunteers to actively promote the work of ICUsteps at every opportunity. Volunteers are also required to feed back any information gained from their engagement and/or meetings. This helps us to identify opportunities for future work and also enables us to monitor and record our voluntary activity more effectively.
Volunteer skills
We’re a friendly and understanding bunch, so a sense of humour will be appreciated. If you want to help others, are willing to listen, network and build relationships and are naturally compassionate and empathetic, you’ll get on well with us.
Most of our work is done virtually, so volunteers will need to have good IT skills, internet access and their own computer. The ability to collaborate using digital tools and platforms such as Teams will be needed. If you have skills or experience with managing volunteers, copywriting, HR and governance or using HTML and web tools like Mailchimp or Office365 administration you’d certainly be able to help us, but previous experience isn’t essential provided you’re willing to learn.
Good communication skills, the ability to organise your own time, a willingness to ask questions whenever necessary and to respond to enquiries in a timely manner are all skills that will contribute to a successful volunteer. Previous experience in volunteering would be helpful, but we’re happy to have first-time volunteers apply too.
Volunteers need to be over 18, have no criminal record, be willing to undergo a DBS check and complete our safe-guarding training.
What we'll provide
We can provide volunteers with an ICUsteps email address and an Office 365 license. You’ll be supported as you get up to speed with the organisation, the role and the tasks you’re asked to get involved with.
What can ICUsteps offer you?
We want to make sure that our volunteers enjoy their role and get the most out of it. All volunteers will be able to get guidance and support from the ICUsteps Volunteer Handbook and are entitled to claim expenses for work undertaken for the charity.
What can we do together?
Time is our most precious commodity. We want to make sure the time you can give to ICUsteps is put to the best use, making the most of the skills and expertise you can give and helping us all to make the biggest impact to help those affected by critical illness.
